A Hill I’d Die on…

Majority of health issues start with lifestyle.

We’ve been conditioned to look for complex answers to our health problems. But the truth is, most people are skipping the basics - and that’s where real change happens.

The majority of people could significantly improve their health with lifestyle changes.

Not a new supplement.
Not a more complex protocol.
Not a rare diagnosis.

Just a deep, honest look at how they’re living every single day.

We’re Skipping the Basics

When I look at someone’s health, I’m not starting with the most complicated deep dive. I’m asking:

  • Are you eating enough?

  • Are you getting adequate protein, carbohydrates, and fats for you and your goals?

  • Are you exercising your body regularly and intentionally?

  • Are you recovering from that exercise?

  • Are you sleeping enough?

  • Are you hydrated?

These are not new cool advanced strategies.
These are foundational requirements for human physiology.

And yet, this is where most people are inconsistent.

I Know This Can Be Offensive,

Because we live in a time where the internet and influencers tell people:

“Maybe it’s something rare that only this drug can help.”
“Maybe it’s genetic and this will support you.”
“Maybe your body is just different and you need this very restrictive plan.”

And while there are absolutely cases where that is true…

That is not the majority. In fact it’s not true for over 90% of cases.

When you understand genetics and epigenetics, you start to see this differently.

Your genes are not your destiny.
They are influenced by your environment.

And one of the biggest drivers of that environment?

Your daily nutrition and lifestyle.

Food, sleep, stress, movement - these are signals that can turn genes up or down.
They are the levers that influence how your body functions.

That is the linchpin.

And it’s the piece most people want to skip because its not flashy.

The Daily Inputs Are Adding Up.

Health is not determined by what you do occasionally.
It’s shaped by what you do consistently.

And many of the “normal” habits in today’s world are working against physiology:

  • Ultra-processed foods as staples.

  • Low-nutrient, convenience-based meals.

  • Massive gut disruptors like zero-calorie sweeteners.

  • Under-eating or inconsistent fueling throughout the day.

  • High daily stress (both mental and physical).

  • Poor quality sleep and lack of recovery.

None of these things exist in isolation.

They are cumulative.

Over time, they send a clear message to your body:
Resources are low. Stress is high. We need to adapt accordingly.

And your body does exactly that.

This Is Where the Disconnect Happens.

People experience symptoms:

  • fatigue

  • hormone imbalances

  • poor recovery

  • digestive issues

And instead of looking at the daily inputs…

They look for a more complicated answer or fix.

Because it feels easier to believe there’s something deeper going on than to confront the reality of what daily habits look like.

A Personal Perspective

This has hit home for me even more becoming a parent.

With my child, I am incredibly intentional about:

  • making sure he is fed and fueled properly.

  • prioritizing sleep and rest.

  • making sure he is up, playing and moving regularly.

There’s no question about it. It’s a priority and I know it’s essential for his health and development.

But as adults, we lose that same level of intention.

We normalize:

  • skipping meals.

  • under-eating and over snacking.

  • running on low sleep.

  • pushing through stress.

And then we wonder why our bodies aren’t functioning well.

I did this for years!

Thinking that my inability to handle stress, my inflammation and poor recovery were due to some rare wild thing that I needed thousands of dollars worth of testing to find…

Guess what, it was under fueling and chronic over training and stress-

My body adapted accordingly.

The Reality of Modern Life

To be fair, this isn’t 100% our fault.

We live in a system that:

  • rewards productivity over recovery.

  • prioritizes convenience over quality.

  • normalizes being busy and exhausted.

It’s easy to fall into the cycle.

Work more.
Eat what’s quick.
Sleep less.
Repeat.

And then look for solutions that allow us to continue that same lifestyle… just with fewer symptoms.

So What Has to Change?

This is the real question.

What are you willing to adjust to support your health?

Because improving your health often requires trade-offs:

  • Being more intentional with your meals

  • Prioritizing sleep, even when it’s inconvenient

  • Fueling your body instead of restricting it

  • Creating space for movement and recovery

  • Reducing inputs that don’t serve your physiology

These are not extreme actions but they do require sacrifice.

And consistency.

Shifting the Mindset.

Instead of asking:

“What’s the next thing I should try?”

Start asking:

  • Am I eating enough to support my body?

  • Am I giving my body the nutrients it needs?

  • Am I sleeping enough?

  • Am I constantly in a stressed state?

  • Am I consistent with the basics?

Because the goal isn’t to chase trends.

It’s to build a foundation that your body can function on.

Final Thoughts

Your health is not built on occasional efforts.
It’s built on daily inputs.

And while there are cases that require deeper investigation…

Most people need to start with the basics.

Not because it’s simple.
But because it’s effective.

At some point, we have to decide:

Are we going to continue feeding a monstrous system that offers more and more complex solutions…

Or are we going to take responsibility for the inputs that drive our physiology?

Because the doctors that are offering you real help are tired of your excuses.

And the doctors that don’t care about you are happy to offer you the next best symptom band-aid.

Your body isn’t working against you.

It’s responding to what you give it.
